| SIA 2010 We went out to the SIA show in Denver to check out all the new gear for next season and take a few pictures to pass around. The show itself was wild, with companies trying to one up each other with their booth designs as well as the extravagance of their after show parties. There are two slideshows on the new gear that you can check out and share, one features touring gear and the other is all about the powder.
Touring Slideshow
One of the trends that has continued to grow is the rise in sidecountry and backcountry touring gear. With more skiers than ever searching out untracked snow from resort boundaries or longer tours into the backcountry the ski industry has continued to develop and refine new products for this market segment. One of the more interesting products for '10/'11 is the Marker Tour binding which aims to fit between Marker's current Duke touring binding and the lightweight champion Dynafit bindings. Powder Slideshow
When it comes to skiing powder the offerings did not disappoint. It seemed like just about every ski wider than 100mm had some iteration of rocker in its design with more and more companies realizing just how great a rockered ski can perform in all sorts of conditions. One of the more notable new skis in this category is the Prophet 115 from Line which blends the all mountain performance of their Prophet 90 with the powder abilities of the Prophet 130 in a 115mm wide ski with tip rocker. I absolutely LOVE this ski anywhere on the mountain, in any conditions!!! The early rise tips allow the ski to plane up quicker in deep snow and allows you to ski pow super fast in a balanced and aggressive stance! When the fresh starts to get tracked out is where they really shine! THEY EAT CRUD AND GNAR FOR BREAKFAST! They just motor through the mank like nobody's business! Again, centered aggressive stance pays off huge dividends! Groomers - they can rail any turn shape you want but they like an experienced pilot. Definitely an advanced ski but the harder and faster you push them - the better they perform! If you like the XXL - you'll LOVE the Big Dump! | | What's Bad: | This is a burly ski. They are on the heavy side. Intermediate and below skiers need to look elsewhere. On groomers and firm snow in between the good days they work fine but you need to drive them and dont get lazy, they'll remind you that you're not on beater skis. I've skied plenty of skis at or longer than a 192 but still - you need to know where to NOT take them. Tighter spots/trees are tricky - manageable - but they really weren't meant to be there anyway. In all Dynastar hit the ball WAY OUT OF THE PARK AGAIN! The same big mountain comp ski that Aerulien Durcoz rides - this is it! | | Summary: | They RIP, they ROCK, they HAUL - GET SOME! |
